I have functioned as an expert witness on multiple occasions, mostly in cases where an attorney or a prospective attorney has had their law license challenged by the State Bar of Michigan. At times an attorney will send a client to me to help determine why he or she has engaged in problem behavior.
The goal is often for the client to continue in therapy to help the client gain insight, correct the problem behavior, and develop positive coping skills so the original problem will not continue. In many cases, after treating such clients for a period of time, I am asked to testify as to the nature of treatment with me as well as the outcome and client progress.
